075- Jogging My Memory

Linc and special guest and friend of the pod, Michael, share their journey that culminated in running in the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in October.

"The reason people want to run the marathon is because the challenge, physically, is you. The distance – how you get there – is all up to you and how hard you work. That's why people want to do it."

- Meb Keflezighi, winner 2009 NYC Marathon and 2014 Boston Marathon

074 - Hard Times

Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained.” - Marie Curie

Linc and Andrew ramble about how people everywhere are having trouble making ends meet, including the homeless and addicted population.  They also discuss the physical and mental toll of a car crash, and training for a marathon.

Linc and Andrew ramble about hockey heroes and the Summit 72 documentary, the tiers of fast food pizza, and why expectations should be tempered for anyone thinking about moving from Toronto to Edmonton.  They also recount rehabbing injuries, physiotherapist horror stories, and getting hit on by coworkers.

“Dark knight feeling, die or be a hero.  Or live long enough to see yourself become a villain.  I went from the favorite to the most hated.  Or would you rather be underpaid or overrated?” - Kanye West

Linc and Andrew talk about the recent labour action and walkout of the Ontario education workers and Ford government’s response and strategy in “negotiations”, including another use of the notwithstanding clause to override Charter protected rights.  They then pivot to discuss the fallout from the hateful rhetoric and misinformation against Jewish people being espoused by Kanye West and NBA player Kyrie Irving.

070 - A Hill to Dye On

“There is only one cure for grey hair. It was invented by a Frenchman. It is called the guillotine.” - P. G. Wodehouse

Linc and Andrew talk about the trendy new term du jour “quiet quitting” and how workers who don’t go above and beyond are being portrayed by the media and corporations.  They also delve into the news anchor Lisa Laflamme dismissal at CTV allegedly over her grey hair – are women allowed to age on television?  How has the feminist movement used this as a rallying call?  What have corporations like already seeked to gain from this controversy?

069 - Pardon the interruption

“...stop regarding all the unpleasant things as interruptions of one's 'own,' or 'real' life. The truth is of course that what one calls the interruptions are precisely one's real life…” - C.S. Lewis

Nice!  Linc and Andrew talk about enjoying the summer time, employers expectations of wanting employees back in the office, and the cause and effect of inflation which is affecting global economies including price gouging, pandemic relief payments and corporate handouts.

Note:  Due to unforeseen circumstances, there were a few stops and starts in this recording.  We did our best to resume our conversations from the point we left off.

068 - Killer Instinct

"You got to have the killer instinct. If you don't have it, forget about basketball and go into social psychology or something. If you sometimes wonder if you've got it, you ain't got it. No pussycats, please." - Bill Russell, “the clearly unqualified on this topic 11-time NBA champion”

Linc and Andrew talk about what it means to have killer instinct in all types of competition.  Also, the toll of exercising and playing sports as a middle aged person and an example of old people being unacceptable.

The constant tension and conflict in the world these days has left the lads a little worn down.  So Linc and Andrew skip the current events discussions and kick it like an old school freestyle pod covering topics like returning to work and the office, their go-to McDonald’s orders, overrated and underrated snacks, grocery store price increases, traveling to London, and more!

Linc and Andrew discuss the topic du jour: the “Freedom Convoy” occupation taking place in various parts of Canada (especially Ottawa and Windsor) that has earned our country international attention (mostly the bad kind).  They cover various aspects of protest such as the arguments of the truckers and their supporters, effectiveness of siege tactics, the effect on local residents, questionable police response, and media bias in coverage and how that shapes public opinion.
